Humanities Scholarships

Eligibility Criteria:•Must be of Hispanic background•Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident residing in the United States or Puerto Rico•Must be studying at an accredited university in the U.S. or Puerto Rico for the upcoming academic year•Must be (or plan to be) enrolled full-time as an undergraduate student for the upcoming academic year•Must have earned and maintain a cumulative Grade Point Average of no less than 3.0 on a 4.0 scale•Must demonstrate financial need•Must be studying a major that falls under the Other Majors Application

Female students who are U.S. citizens, have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or greater and are majoring in Science, (Biology/Math), Liberal Arts, Education, Fine Arts (Humanities) or Business are eligible to apply.

This fellowship is for women of Native American heritage. While candidates for this award may be working in any graduate or pre-professional field, the particular goal of the Allen Fellowship is to encourage Native American women in their studies of the humanities and social sciences. Financial support varies according to need and may include travel expenses. Allen Fellows are expected to spend a significant part of their tenure in residence at the Newberry's D'Arcy McNickle Center for American Indian History. The tenure of the fellowship is from one month to one year; the fellowship provides up to $8,000 in approved expenses. Please note: applicants for the Allen Fellowship must fill out a supplementary form in addition to the cover sheet for special awards and fellowships.

Ford Foundation Predoctoral Fellowship For Minorities is a $17,000 stipend per year for 3 years. Open to individuals who are members of the following groups: Alaska Natives (Eskimo or Aleut), Native American Indians, Black/African Americans, Puerto Ricans, Mexican Americans/Chicanas/Chicanos, and Native Pacific Islanders (Polynesian or Micronesian). Applicants must be registered full-time in a research-based doctoral program (Ph.D. or Sc.D.). Eligible fields include: Research-based areas of the social and behavioral sciences, education, engineering, humanities, life sciences, mathematics, and physical sciences.

The American Association of Japanese University Women (AAJUW) was founded to promote the education of women, as well as to contribute to U.S. - Japan relations, cultural exchanges, and development of leadership. Every year, since the founding of the organization, scholarships have been awarded to outstanding female students. Students must be enrolled full time at an accredited 2 or 4 year University or Vocational school. There are scholarships available for Freshman, Undergraduate, and continuing students. The American Institute for Foreign Study (AIFS) annually offers up to 150 semester scholarships of $1,000 each. There are also 50 scholarships of $750 for summer study. The awards offset fees and travel expenses at AIFS programs in select international universities (list available with application). Candidates must show leadership potential and involvement in extra-curricular activities centered around multi-cultural and international issues. Preference is given to full academic year study. This scholarship seeks to lower barriers to undergraduate study abroad by offering scholarships to students with financial need. Underrepresented students in study abroad programs are encouraged to apply. The award is for semester or academic year study abroad programs. Applicants must not be studying abroad in a country which is currently under a Travel Warning issued by the United States Department of State (please see http://travel.state.gov/travel_warnings.html.). The Bibliogrpahical Society of America (BSA) invites applications for its annual short-term fellowship program, which supports bibliographical inquiry as well as research in the history of the book trades and in publishing history. Eligible topics may concentrate on books and documents in any field, but should focus on the book or manuscript as historical evidence. The Bowman Travel Grants provide assistance to students participating in educational programs in non-traditional destinations. Applicants must be undergraduate students participating in a study, work, or volunteer program in a designated country (a complete list is available at the foundation website), preferably where the student significantly interacts with the host population. Applicants should also demonstrate how the activity is related to their future academic and/or career interests. Applicants must be participating in a travel program sponsored by the grant foundation or a similar program at a member institution (UC Berkeley is a member.)
