Angelo F. Bisesti Undergraduate Scholarship

ANS awards the following undergraduate scholarships for students who have completed two or more years in a course of study leading to a degree in nuclear science, nuclear engineering, or a nuclear related field.

Western Union Foundation Global Scholarship Program

The Western Union Foundation Global Scholarship Program (WU Scholars) is a program designed to support young people and their efforts to pursue a post-secondary education. Selected scholarship recipients will receive USD $2,500 each to contribute toward tuition or school fees at an accredited post-secondary institution and will be selected based on criteria relating to the program's three pillars: Perseverance, Aspiration, and Community. To be eligible, students must be seeking an undergraduate degree in one of the following categories: science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and business/entrepreneurship. The application, which requires a letter of recommendation and an academic transcript, opens Wednesday March 8th. The application deadline is Wednesday, April 12 at noon Eastern Standard Time. Horton Research Grant

The grant is in support of research projects in hydrology and water resources by Ph.D. candidates in institutions of higher education and is awarded annually. Its objective is to foster graduate student research leading to the completion of doctoral dissertations. Appropriate topics may be in hydrology (including its physical, chemical, or biological aspects) or in water resources policy sciences (including economics, systems analysis, sociology and law).

EPA Tribal Lands Environmental Science Scholarship

Awarded to college students pursuing academic programs in the following: Chemistry, Environmental Science, Biology, Toxicology, Environmental Economics, Chemical Engineering, Hydrology, Biochemistry, Entomology, and related environmental disciplines. The awards are $4,000 for college Junior, Senior and Graduate students enrolled full-time at an accredited institution. Students must reapply each year as awards are not renewable. Requirements: 1. Applicant must major in one of the disciplines listed above. 2. Applicant must be a full-time Junior or Senior (12 hours/semester or quarter) or graduate (9 hours/semester or quarter) student, with a minimum GPA of 2.5.

SIL Dibner Library Resident Scholar Program

Applicants must have serious interests that are appropriate for the Dibner Library of the History of Science and Technology, although other Smithsonian and Washington area collections may also be used. The description of the proposed research must make clear and specific the need for access to specific Dibner Library holdings, through such means as a bibliography of titles to be consulted or a description of specific collections. Records for titles located in the Dibner Library are available through OCLC, a national bibliography data base available through nearly 14,000 libraries nationwide. In addition, the Libraries' online catalog, SIRIS, can be searched directly via the Internet. Use telnet and the following address: http://www.sil.si.edu. Scholars will be selected based on: - the quality of the proposal (importance of topic, originality and sophistication of approach, feasibility of research objectives, relevance to the collections); and - evidence of applicant's ability to carry out the proposed research (as outlined in letters of reference, reviews of previous work, publication record, etc.) Applicants whose native language is not English must be able to demonstrate the ability to write and converse fluently in English.

Army Research Laboratory Postdoctoral Flwp Program

Before appointment, each participant must present evidence of having received a Ph.D., Sc.D., or other earned research doctoral degree recognized in U.S. academic circles as equivalent to a Ph.D. Fellows are selected based on their overall qualifications and technical proposal addressing specific needs defined by ARL. The selected participants will work in a unique Army laboratory environment, while interacting with senior ARL scientists and engineers. ASEE will hold reviews of applicants to the Fellowship Program on a continual basis. Fellowships are awarded for one year, however, Fellows may participate for a second and third year. Applicants are advised to plan their research programs to confirm to a one year appointment. Most opportunities for research at ARL Directorates are open to citizens of the U.S. and to legal permanent residents. However, in some Directorates, certain opportunities for research are open only to U.S. citizens. Although opportunities are limited to unclassified research, all guest investigators, including Postdoctoral Fellows, are subject to Army regulations governing visiting scientists. ARL cannot sponsor applicants for its Research Associateship programs who are citizens of countries whose policies have been determined to be inimical to U.S. interests. Prospective non-U.S. applicants who are uncertain of their eligibility are advised to contact the Associateship Programs Office at ARL before submitting a formal application.

NDSEG Fellowship Program

The NDSEG Fellowship Program is open only to applicants who are citizens or nationals of the United States. Persons who hold permanent resident status are not eligible to apply. NDSEG Fellowships are intended for students at or near the beginning of their graduate studies in science or engineering. Applicants must receive or be on track to receive their baccalaureate degrees by the upcoming Fall. Preference to applicants pursuing doctoral study and research in aeronautical and astronautical engineering, biosciences (including toxicology), chemical engineering, chemistry, cognitive, neural and behavioral sciences, computer science, electrical engineering, geosciences, materials science and engineering, mathematics, mechanical engineering, naval architecture and ocean engineering, oceanography, and physics (includes optics). Recommended GPA is 3.0 and higher. Applications are encouraged from women, persons with disabilities and minorities, including ethnic minority groups such as American Indian, Black, Hispanic, Native Alaskan (Eskimo or Aleut) or Pacific Islander (Polynesian or Micronesian). NDSEG Fellows may choose as their fellowship institutions appropriate United States institutions of higher education offering advanced degrees in science or engineering. During part of their tenure, fellows may study or engage in research or field work away from their academic institutions if, in the judgment of the faculty, such arrangements further the fellow's education and contribute directly to the attainment of an advanced degree, and the fellow is officially enrolled and earning academic credit.

Community College Scholarship Program

The Community College Scholarship Program is open to students currently enrolled in a program of study at one of the Virginia community colleges. Students must be U.S. citizens and have completed at least the first semester of their degree program. Awards are generally made to full-time students (12 semester hours), but part-time students (6-9 hours) demonstrating academic merit are also eligible for the award. Students eligible for support can be enrolled in any community college program that includes coursework related to an understanding of or interest in technological fields supporting aerospace. This can include associates degrees related to math and science and AAA and AAS students in advanced technology fields such as, but not limited to, engineering, computers, electronics and industrial technology. Successful scholarship recipients shoudl have grade point averages of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Since an important purpose of this program is to increase the participation of underrepresented minorities, females, and the disabled in aerospace-related, high technology careers, the VSGC especially encourages applications from these students.

J. Waldo Smith Hydraulic Fellowship

Graduate students, preferably an Associate Member of ASCE. Grant is made toward research in the field of experimental hydraulics.

William E. Weisel Scholarship Award

A. Scholarship applicants must be full-time students enrolled in a degree program in engineering or technology and seeking a career in robotics or automated systems. B. Scholarship applicants must have completed a minimum of 30 college credit hours and be seeking a career in manufacturing, robotics, or automated systems. (Graduate students will not be eligible for this scholarship.) C. Scholarship applicants must possess an overall minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale. D. Students may submit a scholarship application in succeeding years. E. Scholarships will be limited to United States and Canadian citizens. F. Need is a consideration in awarding scholarships only when two or more applicants have equal qualifications. Additionally, the following items apply to each and every scholarship/fellowship program and are used by the review committee for evaluation: 1. Students from an Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology/Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (ABET/CEAB) accredited program in Manufacturing Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, or specifically stated programs are ordinarily given preference over those from 1) non-accredited programs or 2) those from other disciplines. 2. Students enrolled in industrial technology, industrial technical education, engineering management, manufacturing management, or who are in technician or machine operator programs are virtually always rejected unless stated in the individual announcement.

Extraction & Processing Division Scholarship

Four $2,000 cash award scholarships are available to undergraduate students majoring in the extraction and processing of materials. The recipients of the TMS/EPD Scholarships will be chosen by a specially appointed selection committee of the TMS Student Affairs Committee. The scholarship recipients will be known as EPD Scholars. A $2,000 stipend will be awarded to each recipient at the TMS Annual Meeting during the Extraction and Processing Division Luncheon. Additionally, the scholarship recipients will be given the opportunity of selecting up to five EPD-sponsored conference proceedings or textbooks to be donated to the recipient's college or university library in his/her name. Up to $500 for travel expenses to the TMS Annual Meeting to accept the award will be given to each recipient. Preference will be given to undergraduate applicants in their senior year, who are enrolled full time in a program relating to the extraction and processing of materials. The following criteria will be assessed by the Scholarship Selection Committee to select the recipients of this scholarship: - Scholarship Application - Academic Achievement - Activities in and out of school, including work experience - Leadership - Personal Profile Statement - Letters of Recommendation All applicants must be TMS student members. Students not currently holding memberships may enclose with their scholarship entry a completed membership application, with dues payment, to become eligible. Students from any country are eligible. Applicants must be enrolled full time in a metallurgical/materials science engineering program at a qualified college or university. Relative of members of the TMS Student Affairs Committee or of the funding committee/ division are not eligible.

International Symposium on Superalloys Scholarship

Two $2,000 cash award scholarships are available to undergraduate and graduate students majoring in metallurgy, materials science and engineering or materials processing/extraction programs. The recipients of these scholarships will be chosen by a specially appointed selection committee of the TMS Student Affairs Commitee and the International Symposium on Superalloys Organizing Committee. A $2,000 stipend will be awarded to each of the recipients at the TMS Fall Conference. Preference will be given to students pursuing a curriculum/career in superalloys. The following criteria will be assessed by the Scholarship Selection Committee to select the recipients of this scholarship: - Scholarship Application - Academic Achievement - Activities in and out of school, including work experience - Leadership - Personal Profile Statement - Letters of Recommendation All applicants must be TMS student members. Students not currently holding memberships may enclose with their scholarship entry a completed membership application, with dues payment, to become eligible. Students from any country are eligible. Applicants must be enrolled full time in a metallurgical/materials science engineering program at a qualified college or university. Relative of members of the TMS Student Affairs Committee or of the funding committee/ division are not eligible.
