Louisiana Scholarships

Some states or counties have hundreds of scholarships for which you may qualify.

Stephen W. Cavanaugh Scholarship Fund

The Stephen W. Cavanaugh Scholarship Fund was established in January of 2007 by Louisiana Workers' Compensation Corporation (LWCC) through the Baton Rouge Area Foundation to honor the memory of Stephen W. Cavanaugh. In the spring, a maximum of two scholarships will be awarded to eligible students subject to availability of funds. Each scholarship shall be in the amount of $1,000 per semester, up to eight semesters, with a maximum award of $8,000.

Ruby J. Darensbourg-Cook Memorial Scholarship Fund

The Fund will make available a four-year scholarship, payable $500 a semester for eight semesters, valued at $4,000 to a qualified candidate. To maintain the scholarship, the recipient must continue to demonstrate his/her scholastic achievement by earning a minimum of 2.5 overall grade point average and a minimum 3.0 grade point average in major course of study each semester. The recipient also must continue to demonstrate good character. At the end of each semester, the recipient will provide the Foundation with an official transcript and proof of full-time enrollment for the next semester. The subsequent scholarship check will be issued only upon receipt of these materials. Should a recipient fail to meet the criteria in a given semester, the scholarship will be terminated. If the recipient has serious reason, he or she may make a written appeal to the committee for reconsideration.

GMRA Scholarship Fund-ADMAX

The GMRA Scholarship Fund-ADMAX was established in appreciation for the relationship between GMRA and the ADMAX stores. This scholarship offers financial assistance ranging from $1,000 to $3,000 to outstanding students who are employed by ADMAX or Associated Grocers. College scholarships valued up to $7,000 that are payable over a four-year period will be awarded. The recipients will be selected by a committee of the GMRA who are recommended by the board of directors of GMRA and appointed by the Baton Rouge Area Foundations board of directors. To be eligible for future awards, a student must apply for the scholarship annually and continue his/her employment by any ADMAXstores and be a previous GMRA scholarship recipient. The recipient also must continue to demonstrate good character. At the end of each semester, the recipient will provide the Foundation with a letter from the location sales director, manager or supervisor, verifying proof of employment. The subsequent scholarship check will be issued only upon receipt of these materials.

The GMRA Scholarship Fund-Associated Grocers was established in appreciation for the relationship between GMRA and the Associated Grocers stores. Karen E. Domingue-Maillet and Rhodia Scholarship Fund

The Karen E. Domingue-Maillet and Rhodia Scholarship may be applied to any accredited Louisiana college or university. It is not restricted as to the field of study and begins with the fall semester. One scholarship will be awarded to a beginning freshman. The amount of the scholarship is $1,000 per year for four years. It is paid $500 per semester. After the first semester, an additional $250 per semester will be awarded to students who maintain a 3.0 GPA or better making the scholarship worth up to $7,250.

David and Jeannie Price Scholarship Fund

The scholarship is available to full-time juniors and seniors studying business at Louisiana State University and the University of Missouri at Columbia. Students meeting the criteria of The David and Jeannie Price Scholarship will be awarded a scholarship to be used toward the following, in order of priority: tuition and fees; room and board; books and supplies; and commuting expenses. The recipients are to be selected by a Scholarship Advisory Committee. This year, three scholarships will be awarded to qualified candidates attending Louisiana State University, and three scholarships will be awarded to qualified candidates attending the University of Missouri. Each scholarship shall be in the amount of $2,000.00.

Students Talent Initiating Results Scholarship (STIRS) Fund

One college scholarship valued up to $3,000 a semester for ten semesters ($30,000) will be awarded. All applicants will be required to attend a personal interview and the recipients are to be selected by an independent Scholarship Advisory Committee. The scholarship award is to be used toward the following, in order of priority: tuition and fees; room and board; books and supplies; and commuting expenses up to $50 a month. To maintain the scholarship, the recipient must continue to demonstrate his/her scholastic achievement by maintaining a minimum of 2.5 cumulative grade-point average each semester. The recipient also must continue to demonstrate good character. At the end of each semester, the recipient will provide the Foundation with an official transcript and proof of full-time enrollment for the next semester. The subsequent scholarship check will be issued only upon receipt of these materials. Should a recipient fail to meet the criteria in a given semester, the scholarship will be terminated. However, the recipient may make a written appeal to the committee. This appeal should explain the cause of the academic downturn and describe what steps the recipient is taking to bring up his/her grades. CRITERIA In making its decision, the Scholarship Advisory Committee will use the following criteria: Financial Need Scholarship ability Good character Acceptance of the recipient by an accredited college or university U.S. Citizenship Relatives of the Planche Family are not eligible for consideration or receipt of a scholarship from the Fund. GUIDELINES Each applicant must present to the Scholarship Advisory Committee the following by due date.

Westbrook Scholarship

The Fund will make available a one-time scholarship in the amount of $500 to a qualified candidate. Checks will be mailed to the recipient

WRKF Scholarship in Broadcast Journalism

The purpose of the Fund is to provide scholarships to full-time students who are majoring in Mass Communications/Broadcasting at either Louisiana State University or Southern University. Students meeting the criteria will be awarded a scholarship to be used toward the following, in order of priority: tuition and fees; room and board; books and supplies; and commuting expenses. The recipients are to be selected by a Scholarship Advisory Committee. Each student selected to receive the WRKF Scholarship in Broadcast Journalism will receive a one-time scholarship for $1,000.

SelectSpace Scholarship

Selectspace scholarship At SelectSpace Partitions, we are proud to offer a scholarship program for students in the process of pursuing a college degree. The awarded student will receive $500 to be used towards expenses for his or her degree. Who may apply? U.S. citizens accepted to or currently attending a college or university within the United States. The winner will be required to provide proof of acceptance to your college or university, or a college transcript. Deadline: Applications must be submitted via the web form by November 30. Next Steps: The award recipient will be notified of the selection on or around December 31. The scholarship award is to be used exclusively for school tuition or related expenses. A check for $500 will be made payable to the award recipient’s college or university. The recipient is expected to submit receipts in accordance with IRS regulations.

The Hoffoss Devall Louisiana Safe Driver Scholarship

The Hoffoss Devall Louisiana Safe Driver Scholarship is a $2,000 scholarship for a Louisiana high school senior who is enrolled in a two-year to five-year institution in Louisiana in 2018. How do you apply? To apply for this scholarship, create a short (30-120 second video) OR submit an essay (must be at least 1,000 words) telling us about one of the following things: 1. Explain why you do not support or promote distracted driving (Ex: driving while texting or drinking). 2. Explain how you prevent distracted driving and promote safe driving practices for yourself, friends, or family by providing specific examples. OPTION 1 – If you’re submitting a video application – Upload your video to YouTube. Fill out the application with supporting essay, and include a link to your video on YouTube. OPTION 2 – If you’re submitting an essay application – Fill out the application and include your full essay (must be at least 1,000 words) in the appropriate submission box.
