Washington, D.C. Beat the Odds Scholarships

Eligibility Nominees for the Beat the Odds Scholarship must meet the following criteria: Currently a junior enrolled in a public, or charter school in Washington, D.C.; Alexandria, Arlington Fairfax County public school systems in Virginia, or Montgomery or Prince George’s county public school systems in Maryland. Following graduation, will attend college, technical or vocational training. Has overcome significant obstacles such as, but not limited to, poverty, disability, homelessness or abuse. Has achieved a grade point average showing marked effort, improvement or success. Will be available for meetings, photo shoots and interviews if selected to receive the scholarship.

CareerFitter’s 16th Annual Scholarship

Our scholarship fund was founded in 2003 and we have awarded 19 winners during this time. We are trusted by universities, career coaches and companies around the world, and have helped hundreds of students find direction in choosing a well-fitting career path. We understand the overwhelming number of career opportunities available to students and how difficult this can be to navigate. CareerFitter has tailored its career assessment tool to examine multiple factors of the person to ensure a range of considerations is made to find an appropriate career. For the 2019 award, we have doubled the value to $1000 to further our support of students and their education. Undergraduate and graduate students are welcome to apply. A specific major is not required for this award, but the applicant should have above a 2.4 Grade Point Average.

Ernestine Matthews Trust Scholarship Award

Scholarship awards will be granted only to applicants from the District of Columbia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia who are entering college as freshmen and will be continued for undergraduate study only. The applicant must rank in the upper 1/3 of the high school class and be in proven need of financial aid in order to attend college. The applicant must be of high moral character and sign a statement that he/she will neither smoke nor use alcoholic beverages while receiving money from the Trust. The scholarship tuition must be used only to defray the cost of tuition and/or room and board of the awardee. Congressional Scholarship Award

The Congressional Scholarship Award program provides financial support for college students who wish to attend the Institute on Business and Government Affairs (IBGA) at Georgetown University. The Institute has become the premier training program for future leaders in business, government and politics. Through academic study, internships in corporate governmental affairs offices and trade associations and in panel discussions with leaders in the profession, students gain an appreciation for the essential interplay between business and government and its effect on our nations future. The Congressional Scholarship Award Dinner is held annually in Washington to honor a senator for his or her contributions to our nation and its young people. Proceeds from the dinner are used to fund Institute scholarships. Scholarships are awarded to outstanding undergraduate students based on leadership skills, academics and campus and community involvement. The Institute, established in 1990, is run by The Fund for American Studies, a private nonprofit educational organization based in Washington, D.C.

WBOC TV 16 Student Scholarship Program

Description:Established to provide financial assistance for college to seniors graduating from high schools in Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and Washington D.C. Eligibility:This program is open to high school seniors in WBOC TV 16’s viewing area (Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and Washington D.C.). Applicants must include a letter explaining how they achieved their accomplishments, how they are making ”A Difference through Leadership” in their school or community, and what they hope to achieve for themselves and others by pursuing higher education. In addition to that letter, selection is based on leadership qualities, school and community involvement, grades, and SAT scores; financial need is not considered.

NACA East Coast Region Thomas E. Matthews Scholarship for Student Leaders

For DC, DE, MD, NJ, NY, Eastern PA students.Scholarships are to be used for educational expenses, including tuition, books, fees or other related expenses. Scholarships are announced in February.DEADLINEMaterials must be submitted online between Sept. 15 and Nov. 1. Only the first 75 qualified applications will be considered.CRITERIAApplicants for the Scholarships for Student Leaders Program must: * Be matriculated undergraduate students in good standing at the time of the application and during the semester in which the award is received * Hold significant leadership positions on their campuses * Have made significant contributions to their campus communities * Have demonstrated leadership skills and ability * You must be a U.S. Citizen * High school students are not eligible.

Benassurance Group Women in Business Scholarship

The Benassurance Group Women In Business Scholarship was formed to empower our newest generation of female students who are about to enter into the business community. The Benassurance Group will recognize an exceptional female student for her interest and/or experience in one or more of the following areas:  Insurance  Entrepreneurship  Finance  Sales  Marketing  Management Eligibility To be considered for the Women In Business Scholarship, the applicant must meet the following requirements:  Reside in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan area  Current enrollment as a full time, undergraduate student  Provide current resume  Optional: Students may include a statement of 250 words or less to provide the selection committee with additional information. This is not required. Award 3 Female Finalists will be selected. The overall winner will receive a $750 award and each of the remaining finalists will receive a $125 award. Finalists will attend a 30-minute interview at the Benassurance Group office in Alexandria, VA.

Green Law Firm Nursing Home & Elderly Care

Attorney Bill Green and his team at Green Law Firm are committed to improving the quality of care in nursing homes. With over 26 years of experience serving the community and many years fighting against low standards of elderly care, Bill is dedicated to promoting passionate students who are focused on making care homes a ‘home’ for our senior population. We are pleased to be offering a $1500 nursing scholarship to high-achieving students who are committed to elderly care and pursuing a baccalaureate degree in nursing. Our hope is to further their professional development and continued competence, allowing them to improve the quality of life for seniors at nursing homes. Applicants will be judged on the content of their application, the essay they provide and on their academic merits. Future Mechanic Grant

Trade School Future is an organization dedicated to helping future mechanics reach their full potential. Our country needs skilled automotive workers and we want to help. Each semester, we’ll be awarding grants of various amounts to students who plan on attending a trade or vocational school with the aim of becoming a mechanic. This scholarship is open to any prospective student in the United States who plans to enroll in a trade or vocational school, 2 or 4 year university, accredited community college or other automotive higher education institution within the next 12 months. The applicant must complete a short essay (500 words or less) detailing why they are pursuing an automotive degree. The applicant must provide a phone number and email address for correspondence about the grant award selection process. The Future Mechanic Grant for the Fall/Winter Semester is a one-time financial gift of $1,000. The grant will be awarded to the applicant who best answers the application criteria, including the short essay. The award funds may be applied to any expenses associated with pursuing an automotive degree or certification. This is a one-time financial gift and does not need to be paid back to Trade School Future.

Drone Technology College Scholarship

The Drone Technology College Scholarship will be awarded to current U.S. college or university undergraduates who demonstrate an interest in pushing the drone industry forward, as demonstrated in an essay of 750-1,000 words. Successful applicants will write thorough, thoughtful essays that dive deeply into the topic, and will have a strong letter of support. Two awards of $1,000 each will be given.
